Senior Backend Engineer

The employer is a developer-tools company making it easier for engineering teams to ship reliable software.

Our St. Paul office is growing, and we need a Senior Backend Engineer who can lead technical work from day one. You will work closely with a collaborative software engineering group and report to the software engineering manager. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our St. Paul office.

What you’ll do

• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
• Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
• Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
• Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
• Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
• Mentor junior engineers and review their work

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience
• Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
• Experience operating services in a cloud environment
• Clear written communication for design reviews
• A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery

Nice to have

• Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
• Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in St. Paul, MN is $144,000 – $183,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
