Associate Backend Engineer

The employer is an applied machine learning company serving insurance and financial services clients.

We are hiring an Associate Backend Engineer to join our software engineering team in San Antonio. You will learn quickly and contribute on projects that matter to our customers. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our San Antonio office.

What you’ll do

• Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
• Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
• Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
• Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
• Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Strong understanding of relational data modeling
• Clear written communication for design reviews
• Experience operating services in a cloud environment

Nice to have

• Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
• Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in San Antonio, TX is $89,000 – $113,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
