Software Engineer Intern

The employer is a cloud software company helping mid-size businesses manage billing and payments.

As a Software Engineer Intern with the employer, you will gain hands-on experience and help shape how the software engineering team works. This position is based in Birmingham, AL. This is a 12-week paid summer internship. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Birmingham office.

What you’ll do

• Partner with product managers and designers to scope and estimate new work
• Write clean, well-tested code and review pull requests from teammates
• Diagnose and resolve production issues, and write the follow-up that keeps them from recurring
• Improve performance, reliability and observability across the services you own
• Mentor teammates and help raise the bar for code quality on the team
• Design, build and maintain services and features used by thousands of customers every day

What you’ll bring

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
• Comfort working with version control, code review and automated testing
• Experience with relational databases and writing efficient SQL
• Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms and software design principles

Nice to have

• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in Birmingham, AL is $31 – $36 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
