Staff Data Engineer

$129 to $158 an hour

As a Staff Data Engineer with the employer, you will set technical direction and help shape how the data engineering team works. This position is based in Simi Valley, CA. This is a 9-month contract with the possibility of extension. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Simi Valley office.
What you’ll do
- Model data in dbt so analysts and data scientists can rely on it
- Work with stakeholders to turn reporting needs into data products
- Optimize warehouse cost and query performance
- Monitor data quality and fix pipeline failures quickly
- Build and maintain batch and streaming pipelines into the data warehouse
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work
- Set technical standards and guide decisions across multiple projects
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics or a related field
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- Understanding of dimensional data modeling
- Experience with an orchestration tool such as Airflow or Dagster
- Experience with a cloud data warehouse
- A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery
Nice to have
- Experience with Spark or Flink
- Experience with data contracts or data observability tools
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Simi Valley, CA is $129 – $158 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
