Senior Backend Engineer

The employer is a software company building workflow and analytics tools for operations teams.

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our software engineering team in Rochester. You will lead technical work on projects that matter to our customers. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Rochester office.

What you’ll do

• Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
• Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
• Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
• Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
• Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
• Mentor junior engineers and review their work

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience
• Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
• Strong understanding of relational data modeling
• Clear written communication for design reviews
• A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery

Nice to have

• Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
• Experience with infrastructure as code

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in Rochester, NY is $167,000 – $212,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
