Senior Backend Engineer

The employer is a networking company that designs connectivity products for enterprises and carriers.

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join our software engineering team in Phoenix. You will lead technical work on projects that matter to our customers. This is a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Phoenix office.

What you’ll do

• Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
• Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
• Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
• Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
• Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
• Mentor junior engineers and review their work

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience
• Strong understanding of relational data modeling
• Clear written communication for design reviews
• Experience operating services in a cloud environment
• A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
• Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in Phoenix, AZ is $96 – $117 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
