The employer is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer in Des Moines, IA. In this role you will lead technical work alongside an experienced software engineering team and take real ownership of your work. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is on site at our Des Moines location.
What you’ll do
- Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
- Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
- Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling
- Clear written communication for design reviews
- Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
- A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery
Nice to have
- Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Des Moines, IA is $135,000 – $171,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
