Principal Embedded Software Engineer

The employer is a medical device company developing surgical and patient-monitoring products.

The employer is looking for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer in Portland, OR. In this role you will set technical direction alongside an experienced electrical & computer engineering team and take real ownership of your work. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is on site at our Portland location.

What you’ll do

• Develop firmware in C and C++ for microcontroller-based products
• Bring up new hardware with the electrical engineering team
• Debug at the board level with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and JTAG
• Write device drivers for sensors, communication buses and peripherals
• Mentor junior engineers and review their work
• Set technical standards and guide decisions across multiple projects

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 8+ years of relevant professional experience
• Strong C programming skills for resource-constrained systems
• Hands-on lab debugging experience
• Experience with an RTOS or bare-metal firmware
• A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery

Nice to have

• Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy or other wireless stacks
• Experience in a regulated industry (medical, automotive, aerospace)

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in Portland, OR is $170,000 – $216,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
