Backend Engineer Intern

The employer is looking for a Backend Engineer Intern in Houston, TX. In this role you will gain hands-on experience alongside an experienced software engineering team and take real ownership of your work. This is a 12-week paid summer internship. This role is on site at our Houston location.
What you’ll do
- Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
- Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
What you’ll bring
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
- Clear written communication for design reviews
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling
Nice to have
- Experience with infrastructure as code
- Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Houston, TX is $33 – $39 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
