Backend Engineer

As a Backend Engineer with the employer, you will work independently and help shape how the software engineering team works. This position is based in Houston, TX. This is a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Houston office.
What you’ll do
- Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
- Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
- Clear written communication for design reviews
- Experience operating services in a cloud environment
Nice to have
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
- Experience with infrastructure as code
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Houston, TX is $78 – $95 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
