As a Backend Engineer with the employer, you will work independently and help shape how the software engineering team works. This position is based in Chicago, IL. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Chicago office.
What you’ll do
- Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
- Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
- Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
- Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Clear written communication for design reviews
- Experience operating services in a cloud environment
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling
Nice to have
- Experience with infrastructure as code
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Chicago, IL is $122,000 – $155,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
