Associate Backend Engineer

The employer is a software company building workflow and analytics tools for operations teams.

Our Buffalo office is growing, and we need an Associate Backend Engineer who can learn quickly and contribute from day one. You will work closely with a collaborative software engineering group and report to the software engineering manager. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Buffalo office.

What you’ll do

• Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
• Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
• Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
• Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Experience operating services in a cloud environment
• Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
• Strong understanding of relational data modeling

Nice to have

• Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
• Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in Buffalo, NY is $96,000 – $123,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
