Backend Engineer Intern

The employer is looking for a Backend Engineer Intern in Los Angeles, CA. In this role you will gain hands-on experience alongside an experienced software engineering team and take real ownership of your work. This is a 12-week paid summer internship. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Los Angeles office.
What you’ll do
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
- Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
- Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
- Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
What you’ll bring
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience operating services in a cloud environment
- Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling
Nice to have
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
- Experience with infrastructure as code
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $40 – $47 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
