Staff Backend Engineer

$110 to $134 an hour

Our Allentown office is growing, and we need a Staff Backend Engineer who can set technical direction from day one. You will work closely with a collaborative software engineering group and report to the software engineering manager. This is a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. This role is on site at our Allentown location.
What you’ll do
- Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work
- Set technical standards and guide decisions across multiple projects
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience operating services in a cloud environment
- Clear written communication for design reviews
- Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
- A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery
Nice to have
- Experience with infrastructure as code
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Allentown, PA is $110 – $134 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
