Backend Engineer

The employer is a software company building workflow and analytics tools for operations teams.

As a Backend Engineer with the employer, you will work independently and help shape how the software engineering team works. This position is based in Philadelphia, PA. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Philadelphia office.

What you’ll do

• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
• Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
• Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
• Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
• Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
• Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 3+ years of relevant professional experience
• Clear written communication for design reviews
• Experience operating services in a cloud environment
• Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language

Nice to have

• Background in high-throughput or low-latency systems
• Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms

Compensation and benefits

The pay range for this position in Philadelphia, PA is $114,000 – $145,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
