We are hiring a Backend Engineer to join our software engineering team in Birmingham. You will work independently on projects that matter to our customers. This is a full-time, permanent position. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Birmingham office.
What you’ll do
- Write design documents and weigh trade-offs with the wider engineering group
- Build asynchronous processing with message queues and streaming systems
- Model data and tune queries for PostgreSQL and other data stores
- Improve test coverage and release safety for critical services
- Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring and on-call
- Design and operate APIs and data pipelines that power customer-facing products
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience building back-end services in Go, Java, Python or a similar language
- Clear written communication for design reviews
- Strong understanding of relational data modeling
Nice to have
- Experience with Kafka or other streaming platforms
- Experience with infrastructure as code
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Birmingham, AL is $116,000 – $147,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
