Staff Data Engineer

Our Houston office is growing, and we need a Staff Data Engineer who can set technical direction from day one. You will work closely with a collaborative data engineering group and report to the data engineering manager. This is a 9-month contract with the possibility of extension. This role is hybrid, with three days a week in our Houston office.
What you’ll do
- Work with stakeholders to turn reporting needs into data products
- Monitor data quality and fix pipeline failures quickly
- Optimize warehouse cost and query performance
- Build and maintain batch and streaming pipelines into the data warehouse
- Mentor junior engineers and review their work
- Set technical standards and guide decisions across multiple projects
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics or a related field
- 8+ years of relevant professional experience
- Understanding of dimensional data modeling
- Strong SQL and Python skills
- Experience with a cloud data warehouse
- A track record of leading projects from scope through delivery
Nice to have
- Experience with data contracts or data observability tools
- Experience with Spark or Flink
Compensation and benefits
The pay range for this position in Houston, TX is $105 – $128 per hour. Final pay depends on experience, skills and qualifications.
